I rang my local reptile rescue and was quoted over £300 to rehome any animal with them... i was told they do not just rehome the animal.. you have to buy the complete set up (viv, heat, light, uvb and starter, thermostat, sand) and then they would let you have the reptile.. i told him i have an empty 4ft viv sat ready now and he said he wouldnt let it go unless i bought th set up.. that way he could ensure i was looking ... It had been in this crate approx 2 weeks and looked fine. Tonight I and hubby are dealing with all the reps feeding, cleaning etc and the bloody lil' sod got out and was running around my bedroom, hiding anywhere it could. It took us almost an hour to catch the super fast lizard and we had to catch him by a net of all things. Am knackered after moving everything out ... This past few weeks we are getting more and more people who are either downsizing and either can't take their reps or they can't afford them. The guy had a phobia of snakes and so did his daughter, who's bedroom it had come from. She also had MS so was panick stricken at the thought of a snake in her room and unable to get away from it fast enough. The snake didn't belong to the guy, it was making its way out of his house ... The folk who found it just arrived back from the Virgin Islands and when they open their suitcase out ran the spider. The poor lad freaked as the spider shot out and when her husband was trying to catch it it just reared up and they couldn't believe it. Anyhow we went to collect it so its here now. Its approx 2inches roughly but the buggar will soon ... The female royal has been previously rescued from an animal abuser that thought it was a good idea to gather his mates around for a snake fighting party. An ongoing debate: If you call yourself a "rescue" and say that you are not a "shelter" and you cannot (or will not) find homes for the animals you "rescue", should you euthanize those animals?
