I got an email from a lady who has a reptile farm in Ohio. We'd talked a bit on one of the other reptile forums I belong to (you mean there is another reptile forum? OMG! Is this true?) and she is expanding her business to include caiman, crocs and gators. She would like to take all six of our caiman to Ohio for two years. She has some long range plan, that includes education, children and ecology, but I didn't need the specifics at this point.

So, Joanne showed up in a step van ...

Croc's mouth taped shut

Durban - Game rangers are trying to capture a large and especially hungry crocodile near the mouth of Lake St Lucia, it was reported on Thursday.

The three-metre long reptile had been starved for at least six weeks after someone taped its jaws shut, according to the Mercury.

It appeared that the crocodile's jaws were sealed tightly with two bands of insulating tape before the reptile managed to elude its captors and escape back to the lake.

SYDNEY: Turning the tables on their predators, invasive cane toads are making a significant dent in northern Australia’s freshwater crocodile population, a new survey reveals.

“While there’s always talk about cane toads having an impact on Australian wildlife, in many cases what we tend to lack is the smoking gun type of evidence,” said biologist Michael Letnic, leader of the team behind the discovery at the ...

BRASILIA (Reuters) - The skinned and salted corpses of about 740 alligators have been found in a nature reserve in Brazil's Amazon jungle, apparently destined to be served up as lunch in restaurants.

About 8 tons of dried alligator corpses were discovered in the Piagacu-Purus reserve with the skins, usually the most valuable part of the animal, likely dumped in rivers, the Amazonas state environmental protection agency said.

With all the rescues and animals needing to be rescued and the low price for spectacled caiman, there really is no reason or need for the average owner to breed caiman. But knowing how to find the sex of your animal is a handy tool.

Fully grown, crocodiles of the far north lie in wait in pools of water as the tide rushes inland and up the river.

These misunderstood beasts of the north know the tide will bring food, with the Northern Territory's wet season king tides washing in thousands of fish 60km up the Mary River east of Darwin.
