As some of you may know we sometimes work with Customs & Excise. We got a call from from their Strike Force Team saying someone had smuggled two small tortoises in from Tunisia. They had been dealt with at the airport and they C&E needed our help to care for these two torts. From the moment the phone went down we set off to collect them. Within 38 mins we had arrived to see the most cutest little torts ever. The had been popped into a box then into a suitcase the poor mites.

(Feb. 7, 2008) — Madagascar's turtles and tortoises, which rank among the most endangered reptiles on earth, will continue to crawl steadily toward extinction unless major conservation measure are enacted, according to a recent assessment by the Wildlife Conservation Society and other groups.

Nature Zone Tortoise Bites.

Soft, moist cactus pear flavored food with an orange color which tortoises are attracted to. This ready to eat food is fortified with calcium, vitamins, essential nutrients and has the fiber content tortoises need. Also a favorite of box turtles.

Ingredients:

Whole milk powder, dried egg product, whey protein, soy protein, maltodextrin, sucrose, ...

Well with summer on the way we cleaned out the turtle ponds last weekend and decided we would take some pics too. This pond used to be just our fish pond but now it is shared with Map Turtles and smaller terrapins. Apart from one big terrapin called Floppy. Floppy can't walk or swim properly hence why she is in this pond.

Pyramiding is irregular growth, often characterized by a shell (carapace and plastron)

which is lumpy, and sometimes grows in irregular, unnatural directions.

Unfortunately, not only the "outside" of the tortoise is affected. Tortoises which suffer from

pyramiding may also have other health problems. Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD),

bladder stones, weak bone structure, and renal problems are all too common in

tortoises which have suffered from the long term effects of a bad ...

Hi all,

though I'd post this on here. Here's hoping this is more popular than it was previously. The subject says it all really. The tortoise is five weeks into hibernation.

Christmas Eggs

I got a bit of a shock this afternoon when visiting the torts when I found Bonnie (T.g.ibera) covering up a nest, on digging the nest up I found 2 eggs.

I would just like to say that she is awake as she recieved medication for a sore eye at the end of November, so I felt it best to abandon hibernation this year. She has been living alone during this time and eggs were the furthest thing from my mind.
