PostSubject: Gecko With Poor Shed   Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:32 pm

Today we got a young leopard gecko in as a rescue. The poor little thing has been seen by the vet a couple of weeks ago, according to the date on the cream that was prescribed. His right arm looks like me may lose it as he hasn't shed properly, probably for quite a few previous sheds. His owner brought him in as they can't afford the vet bill to get the arm amputated. So if there is no improvement in the next few days it's another trip to the vets.
Sorry it's not a great pic.

I am hoping so, I am just giving it a few more days to do the right thing such as warm baths, humid hide and applying the cream, then if not its a trip to the vets and most likely lose the arm. It's just such a damn shame as the young lad who brought it here obviously loved and cared for him and bout all types of shop products and must of spent a tidy some on them too. But where ever he bought the gecko from must of given him the wrong advice on how to keep it. Evil or Very Mad

Think we just may of saved the geckos leg. This is a skin band that was like a tight elastic band around the top of his arm. It must of been 5 sheds or more to be so bad. So after several warm baths and a humid hide, and very carefully easing the skin off we did it! Now just covered it in Betadine to see what happens now.

Well done Denise! I thinks that one of the reasons humidity etc has to be spot on with any lizard, otherwise a limb is lost!

Thanks Bam and Bogga

Well in just over 12 hours since the release of that nasty skin band the swelling has come down by 50%.

He is doing much better now and seems happier and no longer in pain. And his hand looks good.

Before pic

After pic.
