| I have mixed feelings about telling this story.
We have little common geckos running around here all the time. And it's pretty kewl this time of year, when you see all the baby lizards scurrying around. So we've pretty much, consciously or not, been ignoring them.
Well, I walked out the front door yesterday to take Mrs. CaimanHunter to work and didn't see anything amiss and left the door open so she, following me, could walk straight out. Which she did; and then slammed the door behind her.
When I returned, I noticed something strange at the top of the door. There was the body of a brand new baby gecko but it wasn't moving and I couldn't see the rest of it.
I opened the door and to my utter astonishment, he had no head or tail. Both his head and his tail were on the inside of the door. He had to have been draped around the very top of the door at the precise moment that the missus ran out and slammed the door, guillotining his head and his tail perfectly, without a single crush injury.
I am saddened that this lizard died. I am embarrassed that it died at (on) the door of a reptile rescue. But when I showed it to the SO, when I brought her home from work, the look on her face when she realized that she had done it; and the gasp she let out; and the terrified shocking comments she made in rapid succession; all made me laugh at the hilarity of the situation as a whole.
I know, I'm going to hell. | |
