| It's simple.. do you agree that it is acceptable to breed turtles /terrapins for the pet trade? Particulary when so many either die or end up in rescue centres. | |

| On a limited basis. Especially if the money is going back into the rescue to help fund rescues and other projects.
I feel the same about breeding and selling a limited amount of caiman hatchlings.
Responsible rescue, responsible breeding, limited breedings, limited sales, re-using funds within the non-profit.

Yes I agree there, don't support the WC trade. I kind of feel that some terrapins and turtles shouldn't be sold at all for example red eared sliders or soft shell turtles. So breeding any of these or any that grow particulary large I feel shouldn't be happening. But breeding turtles such as map turtles or musk turtles would be ok as they don't get very big.

| Hmmmm I personally think it very sad how people buy these creatures with no thought given on what size (or how bored) they will become. I once had a neighbour who asked if I would look after her terrapin while she was on holiday. nearly 4 weeks later a removal lorry pulled up (no sign of her) and a For Sale sign went up. I never saw her again (bitch) and when I took the terrapin 2 the vets 2 have him checked out, he had a calcium deficiency (which ended up costing me a small fortune) But he lasted another 5 years with us. People really should give more thought before buying any animal | |
